India, Greek Cyprus Deepen Strategic Ties
The Indian Foreign Ministry stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Greek Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides marked the first visit by an Indian head of government to Greek Cyprus in more than 20 years.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the recent advancements in “economic, technological, and people-to-people ties,” describing them as indicative of the vibrant and progressive character of the bilateral connection, as noted in the statement from New Delhi.
The joint discussions also highlighted the importance of reforming the United Nations Security Council, particularly in making the body “more effective, efficient, and representative of contemporary geopolitical challenges.”
Additionally, the Greek Cypriot leadership committed to backing the conclusion of an EU-India free trade pact by the close of this year.
