India Seals Agreement to Import US LPG

(MENAFN) India announced on Monday that it has finalized a "historic" agreement to purchase Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the United States, according to an official statement.
Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, described the arrangement as India’s first "structured contract of US LPG for the Indian market."

"One of the largest and the world’s fastest growing LPG market opens up to the United States," Puri stated on the US social media platform X.

He added that in the effort to ensure stable and affordable LPG supplies for Indian citizens, the country has been broadening its sources of LPG.

Calling it a "significant development," Puri noted that India's Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) oil firms have "successfully concluded" a year-long negotiation for imports.

The agreement stipulates that India will import 2.2 million tons of LPG annually, accounting for nearly 10% of its total yearly imports, according to Puri.

He further explained that Indian oil companies had been in discussions with major US producers over recent months to finalize the deal.

This move comes against a backdrop of trade tensions between the two nations, including 50% tariffs imposed on Indian goods by the Trump administration, partly linked to India’s continued purchases of Russian oil amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
